No matter how many different batteries I put into my SB 900 I get the symbol that no batteries are in the unit. Batteries have been confirmed as being good as they work fine with my SB 600. Unit is not recognizing any batteries. Any suggestions?

Turn off the sensor overheating option on the sb900 menu. Its rubbish! I had the same problem, but since then have shot thousands of photos and its never overheated.

Oiii, tdo bem,
Eu tenho uma D90 e um flash SB-900. Comprei os dois pq me indicaram como sendo um produto mto bom. Mas estou com problemas de travamento do flash…aquecimento. Eu tenho Windons 7, e nao consegui encontrar nenhuma versão para fazer o upgrade SB-900 firmware. Me informaram que com esta atualização o flash para de travar. Mas estou procurando aqui uma versão em portugues, pq em ingles, nao mando bem, sendo tb compativel com a versao do windons 7. Vc pode me ajudar, obrigadoo.

Shooting a wedding held outside, wouldn’t be more than 19 Celsius, and it kept overheating I just want to smash it to bits!!! Nikon should be ashamed!!!!
Has atone tried an external battery pack??

I solved the problem of SB900 overheat shut-off by
1) disabling the function
2) Buying two additional flashes, SB600′s

I have the same problem Tony! The SB900 is worthless at weddings because of the overheating problems. Did the firmware fix your problem?

I thought it was just me. My flash unti overheats all the time and shuts down! It drives me insane! Has anything been done to correct this?

I have the same problem – 2 D700′s both do the same thing, sb-600 works fine but my sb-900 consistently shoots dark pictures and shows the underexposure value at -3.0, even with exposure value (EV) setting at +3. Does anyone else have a solution to this? I was going to upgrade firmware, but it sounds like that won’t fix the problem. The sb900 is only a few months old and i am not too impressed to say the least!

I have a problem with TTL on my Nikon Speed light SB 900 – all my pictures are dark. It’s not working – neither on Nikon 90 nor on Nikon D 300. I have installed new firmer 5,02 on my SB 900, have reset both flash and camera, but on the display, above the function button 2 I am not able to move away black triangle (-) which showes: -3, underexposure. According to official user’s manual, pdf, page 4 : “Pressing Function button 2 recalls display of underexposure value in TTL mode” – but this is not possible in my case. When I press button 2, nothing is happening.

I just used this flash for the first time on a weeding this weekend and it screwed me. It overheated after 6 to 8 flashes and shut down. Does this upate fix that problem or do I have a bad flash unit?

Its been mentioned that this update fixes the thermsensor being set too low, but I dont see this fix listed?
