Updating your Nikon SB-900′s Firmware (How To Guide)
How to upgrade firmware:
Upgrading the Nikon SB-900 Firmware might seem complicated or confusing at first, especially if your not a computer buff, which you probably are in a little way familiar with a computer using the Nikon SB900 Speedlight anyhow. To help outline the process of upgrading the SB 900 firmware, I have put together the below text, as well as a helpful illustration for those that jsut want to check out some pictures with helpful diagrams:
Firmware Upgrading Requirements:
To upgrade your firmware with the SB-900 you will need the following bodies:
- Nikon D90
- Nikon D700
- Nikon D300 with at least firmware v1.10
- Nikon D3 with at least firmware v2.0
- This list will expand shortly as the sb-900 reaches a more mature age..
Also required:
- Charged batteries on both camera & SB-900
- Memory Card or USB cable & usb port / card reader
- Compatible Windows or MAC operating system on computer
- Computer has 5+ MB free
- Computer has 32mb ram
- Note – 99% of people with a computer bought within the last 10 years will meet those last requirements
- Download the firmware file to your computer
- Format memory card in the compatible camera
- Connect the compatible camera to your computer via MSC mass storage USB mode or use if a memory card reader
- Open the downloaded file to see a new folder created
- Copy the .bin file inside onto the top level of the memory card
- Disconnect camera from computer or insert the memory card into the camera
- Attach Speedlight SB-900 and turn both units on
- Pressing the menu button – select setup menu and then select Firmware Version
- Select update and follow the on screen ques, Do not turn either off during the update
- Message will display that update is complete and you can turn off camera, re-format memory card and turn back on speedlight to confirm new firmware version
Nikon SB-900 Firmware v5.02 Released
Firmware Version 5.02 for the SB900 has been officially released and contains a couple of small tweaks fixing some annoying problems… Everyone has to love the ability to firmware update!
